An interview study was conducted with doctors, nurses, care workers, pharmacists, dieticians, physiotherapists and social workers to clarify the requirements for interprofessional work on discharging planning from the viewpoint of professionals in a convalescence rehabilitation ward. Verbatim transcripts were created and analyzed using the KJ method, resulting in 50 labels, categorized into 6 groups. Examining relationships between the groups in diagrammatic form produced the following results. Building on a foundation of "receiving positive evaluation for assistance provided and being supported through mutual collaboration with colleagues, providing the capacity to fulfil one's own role", respondents made the attitude "to create good models of collaboration with interchangeable forms enabling self to compromise with others to respond to any situation". This underpinned "adoption of a stance of understanding differences between self and other and finding an overall balance" and "aiming for collaboration that is natural and reasonable without being constrained within one's own frame", which in turn was linked to "deepening understanding of and respect for other professionals while covering for each other's gaps, thus producing high-quality support". On the other hand, one issue identified was that "support for the patient is handed over after hospital discharge, and not knowing what happens with the patient after this point is a cause of concern".
